This is a fine art paper print of the original acrylic on canvas painted illustration, the legend Ol' Warwick, by Laura Whittier.  The illustration is based on Satao the elephant. Satao was an African elephant that lived in Tsavo East National Park, one of the largest wildlife parks in the world with a large population of elephants. He was thought to have been born during the late 1960s and was estimated to be one of the largest elephants in the world at the time of his death.  He has been described as one of Kenya's most iconic and well-known tuskers (male elephants with tusks that almost reach the ground). With tusks were over 6.5 feet long, he was estimated to be the largest of the few remaining tuskers living in Kenya.

Satao was officially declared dead on 13 June 2014 and the Tsavo Trust released the following statement announcing his death:

It is with enormous regret that we confirm there is no doubt that Satao is dead, killed by an ivory poacher's poisoned arrow to feed the seemingly insatiable demand for ivory in far off countries. A great life lost so that someone far away can have a trinket on their mantlepiece. Rest in peace, Old Friend, you will be missed

This illustration was created in honor of Satao and all animals that lose there lives to human nonsense. In honor of him, $10 from every sale of this print will be donated to the Save The Elephants Organization.

It comes unframed in an 8x8 inch size (the printed area is 7.5x7.5 which will fit a mat with an 8x8 opening). It is printed by the artist at her studio and is hand signed on the front.
